Biodiversity is being promoted in most vineyards where vines are cultivated with living soil- full of bacteria and worms-  which assists to draw the utmost level of soil minerals. Grapes that  are grown in living soil were proven to strongly resist diseases.  An eye catching landscape is also created by biodiversity.

In reality, grape growing started organically though not these days not all vineyards are organic.  Organic farming uses no harmful fertilizers or pesticides.

There are four types of organic wines:

  1. 100% organic. Grapes here are grown 100% organic and contain no sulphites.
  2. Manufactured with organic ingredient. May contain sulfite but at least with 70% organically grown grapes
  3. Organic . Contains at least 95 percent of organic ingredients.
  4.  Some organic ingredients

With this information at hand, one must know the difference between the four types of organic wine.

Wine processed from organic  grapes and gives information on its certifying agency is called organic. These are the wines that do not contain additional sulfites but may consist natural sulphites. Sulfur dioxide is the common name of sulfites used as a wine preservative. It has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties

There are some conventional vineyards that undergo reconversion process, that is, they convert from conventional to fully organic.  This usually takes up to three years to complete.

So if you're looking for healthier wines, don't you think it's best to have organic wines?
