In 1996, Peter and Lee Fogarty purchased Millbrook Winery and Chestnut Farm, and along with their three children, planted their first vines. Situated about 50 minutes away from Perth, this boutique wine estate is nestled among lush jarrah trees in the historic town of Jarrahdale.
Barking Owl Shiraz is made using 95% Shiraz and 5% Viognier grapes, sourced from the breathtaking vineyards in Western Australia. The ripe fruit was co-fermented and traditionally hand-plunged to extract a deep ruby-magenta colour, fruity flavours, and great tannins from the skin. The rich and fine bouquet comprises of black cherries and plums, lifted by the hallmark spiciness of Shiraz grapes. Viognier aromatics and undertones of vanillin oak are also noticeable. The plums and cherries are replicated on the rich palate, along with blueberries and supporting oak. Lots of dry and plump tannins beautifully balance the medium bodied palate, culminating the wine in a lengthy and velvety climax. Enjoy this Aussie wine now, or cellar it for 3 to 5 years. Serve with meaty dishes, light summer salads, or traditional Australian barbecues.
