Falling under the world-renowned Barossa zone in SA, Eden Valley wine region is characterised by rolling hills, diverse wildlife, majestic red gums and quaint boutique wineries. The region enjoys a cool-climate that gives it an edge over the neighbouring areas. It houses numerous wineries, the essence of which is beautifully captured by a collaborative cellar door – Taste of Eden. History

With a history that dates back to 1847, Eden Valley SA accommodates some of the oldest vine in the state. Its first vineyard, Pewsey Vale, was planted by Captain Joseph Gilbert. In the preceding years, its winemaking industry saw a boost and the region received GI mark in the year 1997.

Terroir

Located in the Mount Lofty Ranges, Eden Valley experiences a cool climate. Land parcels situated at an altitude ranging between 380-550m are considered perfect for vineyards. This area receives a fair amount of sunlight and a cool climate allowing fruit to enjoy a long ripening period.

The soil type throughout Eden Valley comprises of gravels and weathered rocks along with a clay subsoil making for ideal wine growing conditions.

Must-Try Wines

Although, Eden Valley covers a small piece of land, it accounts for some of the highly-acclaimed beauties. Riesling reigns the region with its plentiful flavours, refreshing acidity and mineral notes, some of which are crafted for long term cellaring. The plush Shiraz goes into bucket list of every Shiraz lover. Some of the Riesling and Shiraz vines are more than 100 years old, speaking of the quality themselves. Some other recently introduced wine styles include Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon which are widely produced across the region owing to their popularity.
