Cleanskin wines have recently started becoming quite popular among Australian wine – enthusiasts who wish to enjoy flavoursome and delicious wines at affordable prices. Cleanskin Merlot

The most special feature of Cleanskin wines is that they are free from any labels regarding the winemakers or the brand of the wine except for the varietal, the vintage year and the source of harvest. Thus, these wines can be judged purely upon their flavour, structure and mouthfeel.

Australia is home to about 16,000 hectares of Merlot vineyards which makes up approximately 7 percent of the worldwide area covering Merlot grapes. This makes Australia the fourth – largest Merlot producer globally with South Australia being the most celebrated Merlot wine region in the country.

Cleanskin Merlot varietal has a medium red colour, lying between that of Pinot Noir and Shiraz varietals. Ripe black cherries, juicy raspberries and fresh plum flavours make up the palate while other characters such as cappuccino, allspice, cedar, vanillin and granite hints balance the intense flavours of dark berries. Smooth, plush tannins and crisp acidity fuse wonderfully with the fruit flavours to give a lengthy and refreshing finish.

The wine is subjected to maturation in American and French oak barrels for a period of 8 to 12 months. It tastes best when served chilled with dishes like barbecued ribs, roasted duck, meat loafs and herbed chicken.
