There are very few people on this planet who do not love chocolates. Also, there are few who can resist an elegant wine! Now, if you combine these two i.e. chocolate and wine- the result would be PURE BLISS! Chocolate and wine taste heavenly together but only if the right kind of chocolate is paired with the wine that you are drinking. Below is a small guide to help you start off:-

White Chocolate:

Made up of sugar, mike solids and cocoa butter, white chocolate is mostly sweet and thus works well with sweeter wines like the ice wine. This dessert wine is produced in cold regions where the grapes get frozen on the vines, concentrating their natural sugars to give an extremely sweet taste. Canada’s Niagara region is renowned for its ice wines.

Milk Chocolate:

Tuscany is famous for the unique Vino Santo wine, which is served along with dipping biscuits. The crunch of these biscuits and mild taste of milk chocolates are a delight to have with this wine.

Dark Chocolate:

Ecuadorian chocolates produced by the likes of Pacari Chocolate, Hoja Verde Gourmet and Montecristi Chocolate are great matches for Ecuadorian wines. The 70% Cocoa Dark Chocolate with Salt and Nibs is a perfect match for the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon & Malbec blend from Paradoja Wines. The salty, sweet and buttery flavours that dark chocolates are full of also pair beautifully with other red wines like Cabernet Merlot that exhibit notes of cloves, berries and chocolates.

Chocolate – Covered Strawberries:

The Chardonnays produced in Australia are bold and intensely fruity, balancing out the cocoa flavours of a semi – sweet chocolate coating and bringing forth the sweetness of the strawberries.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Cups:

Southern France’s Banyuls are great with chocolates and hence are incredible matches for peanut butter chocolate cups too. This viscous, spicy and strawberry – flavoured wine tastes marvellous with these peanut butter and chocolate treats.
