The results for the recently organized 2016 Limestone Coast Wine Show have been announced, and Leconfield Wines has emerged as the top contender, being awarded ‘Most Successful Exhibitor’ with the range of trophies and medals that they received. Setting a total score of four gold medals, one silver medal, three bronze medals and three trophies, the wines that were awarded at this ceremony include the following:

Leconfield-Merlot

The 2015 Leconfield Coonawarra Merlot was awarded the Peter Wehl trophy for ‘Best Merlot’. Paul Gordon, Senior Winemaker at Leconfield Wines, commented that they continuously try to produce fresh and structured Merlot wines that reflect features and characteristics judges generally look for in wine competitions.

The 2015 Leconfield Petit Verdot was immensely successful, winning the trophy for ‘Small Batch and Experimental Wines’. Sarah Pidgeon, Wine Show Committee member said that this award was given so as to unlock the next big thing from the region. Paul Gordon described his wine as an elegant, lavish and fruit driven wine that sports a contemporary style full of texture and finesse.

Gold medals were awarded to 2015 Leconfield Merlot, 2015 Leconfield Petit Verdot, 2015 Leconfield Cabernet Merlot and 2016 Leconfield Old Vine Riesling. According to Paul Gordon, the Cab Merlot is well-rounded and structured with a great backbone which lets it mature well for a few years. The Old Vine Riesling is a fruity wine featuring floral notes that pair well with full flavoured fish cuisines or vegetarian meals.

The Limestone Coast Wine Show is now in its 16th year, being considered one of the most prestigious wine shows in Australia. Judges presiding over the committee this year included Jane Skilton MW, who regularly oversees competitions at the Hawkes Bay Wine Awards, the New Zealand International Wine Show and the Royal Easter Wine Show amongst others.
