Other wine enthusiasts notice these flow. Did they come down slow or fast? Are they thin or thick? Do they really tell something about the wine? Actually, yes. But they have nothing to do with the wine’s quality.

The legs created through swirling of the wine have something to do with the glass surface, water, and alcohol content of the wine. Usually, thicker and slower legs have higher alcohol content. Another factor that slows down the movement of the legs is the wine’s sugar content. Therefore, a sweet wine may have legs that are thicker and move slowly.

You can do some experiment right now. Grab a bottle of wine with different alcohol level. Pour them both on a wine glass that are similar in shape. Swirl them and watch the legs fall down.
