The Melbourne International Wine Competition is regarded as the first major international wine competition which consists of a panel of “trade only” judges, meaning that these judges are real trade buyers who analyze and rate the wine based on its actual price and category. These judges buy wines from world class hotels and restaurants, as well as top liquor stores. Unlike most other wine competitions, these judges actually make an impact on wine sales, and possess purchasing power.

Started in 2014, the MIWC recently announced the winners for its 4th run. The event was held in the heart of Melbourne, where more than 1100 wine varietals and blends were tasted and judged. Adam Levy, Founder of the MIWC commented that the judges were really impressed with the entries into the competition this year. The esteemed panel of judges consisted of Bert Wyden – Buyer and Director at WineStar; Bob Paulinski – MW (Head of Sourcing – Wine, Coles Liquor); and Andrew Roper (Founder & Chief Selector – Wines to the Stars); among other high profile wine sommeliers, hoteliers, distributors and retail store buyers.
