The Royal Melbourne Wine Awards (RMWA) were held recently, and the results are now in. From over 3100 entries to the competition, Printhie Wines emerged as the most successful winery of the Orange region, winning the award for ‘Best Sparkling Wine.

Medals were awarded to various other wineries such as Rowlee, Logan Wines and Windownie Estate, but none could beat the excellent sparkling produced at Printhie. The wine being talked about, the Swift Cuvee NV Chardonnay/Pinot Noir, proved itself to be the best amongst 97 other entries to the competition, winning first a gold medal and then the trophy.

Ed Swift, co-owner at Printhie Wines, is extremely delighted with this achievement as the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards is one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the country, and their winery receiving this honour is a tremendous feat!

He also went on to establish that sparkling wines from cool climate regions show the best characters and flavours, and are truly reflective of the regional and varietal elements of sparkling wines.

Printhie Wines receiving this trophy is great for the winery, but it is equally advantageous for the Orange wine region as well. Although this is just a local wine show, this achievement marks an important milestone as it is reflective of the potential of the Orange region for the production of sparkling wines.

Other wineries to win medals are as follows –

1. Silver – Brangayne of Orange (2015 Sauvignon Blanc)

2. Bronze – Logan Wines (2016 Weemala Riesling)

3. Bronze – Rowlee (2015 Nebbiolo)

4. Bronze – Windownie Estate Family Reserve (2015 Pinot Noir)
