Right wine temperature

The Tasmanian Wine Show is an annual event organized with the support of the Tasmanian Government. This special event is held to celebrate Tasmanian wines, and recognize as well as honour the skill, dedication and passion of the grape growers and the winemakers of Tasmania.

For the year 2018, International Judge Patrick Comiskey presided over the panel of judges. In addition to being an independent wine writer as well as wine competition judge, Patrick is also a Senior Contributor for the wine magazine – Wine and Spirits, and the Chief Wine Columnist for the Los Angeles Times.

The Tasmanian Wine Show 2018 was held in Launceston, as is the case every even year. In the odd years, the judging takes place in Hobart. Judging commenced on 15 January 2018 & ended on 18 January 2018. The final results were announced at the Trophy Presentation Dinner on January 19.

The following is a list of the major awards and the wines/wineries that received them: 

  • Best Late Disgorged Older Vintage Sparkling – 2008 Arras Blanc de Blanc
  • Best Vintage Sparkling – 2011 Heemskerk Chardonnay Pinot Noir Sparkling
  • Best Non-Vintage Sparkling – A by Arras
  • Best Riesling – 2016 Eddystone Point Riesling
  • Best Pinot Gris – 2017 Barringwood Pinot Gris
  • Best Chardonnay – Trophy 2015 Brown Brothers Patricia Chardonnay
  • Best Sweet Wine – 2014 Riverdale Estate Botrytis Riesling
  • Best 3 Year Old Pinot Noir – 2015 Derwent Estate Pinot Noir
  • Best Pinot Noir – 2016 Home Hill Estate Pinot Noir
  • Best Museum Wine – 2003 Freycinet Riesling
  • Best Other Wine – 2015 Milton Shiraz
  • Best 2017 Vintage Wine – 2017 Heemskerk Riesling
  • Chairman’s Selection – 2015 Clemens Hill Pinot Noir
  • People’s Choice – 2016 Stargazer Chardonnay
  • Pinot Noir Producer of the Year – Bream Creek Vineyard
  • Reserve Champion Wine of Show – 2016 Home Hill Estate Pinot Noir
  • Champion Wine of Show – 2011 Heemskerk Chardonnay Pinot Noir Sparkling
  • Most Successful Exhibitor – Accolade Wines
  • Export Wine of Show – 2016 Eddystone Point Pinot Noir

These have been chosen as the top wines to come out of Tasmania in 2017. If you ever get the chance to try them, don’t miss out!
