Thistle Hill is a beautiful and renowned wine estate hidden away on the outskirts of Mudgee in the Cudgegong Valley region of New South Wales. Thistle Hill was founded in the mid – 1970s. This makes it one of the oldest and longest – running organic wineries of the country. The owners, David and Lesley Robertson opted for this particular piece of land as these soils had already experienced grapevine – growing during the 1850s. Thistle Hill is counted among the oldest wine estates to have been certified organic by NASAA (National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia). Since organic farming began in the early – 1990s, not once has any kind of chemical spray been used on their crops. The purity and naturalness of Thistle Hill wines can be experienced in their taste. Since 1993 when the vineyard received organic certification, it has remained free of any kind of synthetic materials like herbicides, fungicides or toxic pesticides. Sustainable farming is practiced on the property, leading to a concentrated and juicy yield every year. Thistle Hill is proud of its eco – friendly methods and the elegant and natural wines produced as a result.

Thistle Hill Wines has always promoted organic farming. From its early days, tree breaks have been planted by the winery so as to attract birds and wildlife that call it home and are an important aspect of organic pest control at the winery. To aid in pollination, the team keeps installing bee hives. In the winter season, sheep are used to carry out weeding and slashing as well as help with fertilizing. In place of harmful fertilizers and pesticides, compost is used to build the soil nutrient content. All of these methods have helped Thistle Hill to craft organic, healthy, delicious and sophisticated wines that have won awards and appreciation from all corners of the world.

For people who wonder whether organically – produced wines are the same as or even better than conventionally – created wines, Thistle Hill can showcase dozens of trophies and medals it has been awarded over the last 35 years.
