Wines and Celebrations are Inseparable

Have you ever been to an event or celebration where there is no wine? I guess not. Wines and celebrations are essentially linked together. If you will dig deeper, you will discover that wine had been present and took center stage in the most historical occasions. Examples that bear most prominence are ones mentioned in the Bible:

  • turning of plain water into wine during a wedding
  • and Jesus offering wine to His apostles during the Last Supper

These examples show that wine was drank in the atmosphere of celebration. Nowadays, celebrations and important events will not be complete without an offer for a toast. Why? Who started it?

It has been said that drinking of wine started thousands of years ago. Archaeologists discovered a cave in Armenia where there were notable signs of wine production. There is no exact information on who discovered wine production. It was still a mystery how its production and consumption evolved. However, it was developed and advancements were made such as the creation and use of barrels for wine shipping and storage. Additionally, the tradition and culture of drinking wine during special occasions has remained.

According to Steve Lay, a wine enthusiast, the personality, allure, and value of wine had remained intact throughout the ages because of the following reasons:

  • Wine’s mystic color captivates the eyes, its complex scent glorifies the olfactory senses, and its taste impacts the overall mood of an individual.
  • Wine is not made from artificial resources. It is made by nature, thus, making it priceless.
  • Wine does not choose whom to serve. Whether you are from a family of royalty or one of the most common people, wine is readily available for your consumption.
  • Culture and tradition appointed wine as the official celebratory, casual, and social drink.
  • Wine enhances the flavor of food which is essentially part of any celebration.
  • The alcohol content of wine relaxes a person.
  • Science has proven the health benefits wine brings to every individual.
  • Fine wines satisfy the taste buds of most people with different backgrounds and experience.
  • Wine is mysterious. No person can exactly describe its characteristics and impact.

The role of wine in our lives can never be underestimated. It gives us something to look forward to in celebrations. It causes special bonding moments for couples, families, friends, and work colleagues alike. For most of us, it works as a stress relieving agent after a day of hard work.

Indeed, we should be thankful for the people of the past generations who gave us this very special gift. A gift which is pleasing to the eyes, sense of smell, hearing, and to the palate all the same time. Isn’t that a cause for a toast?
