The premium fruit used to craft Cloudy Bay Te Koko was harvested in the cool of night followed by whole bunch pressing. The juice was then immediately transferred to French oak barrels and allowed a wild fermentation. It shows a light straw colour with bright yellow shades. A whiff of the wine presents mesmerising scents of white florals, fresh herbs, honeysuckle and stone fruits, accompanied by flinty mineral notes. The juicy palate packs mouthwatering flavours of nectarine, lemongrass and kaffir lime, offering a balanced and creamy mouthfeel. A firm layer of gentle minerality and balanced acidity culminate the wine in a vibrant and youthful finish. Made for consumption after a cellaring term of 10 or more years, this intensely flavoured Sauv Blanc serves best with ginger crab and soba noodle soup.
Named after the water body explored by Captain James Cook in 1770, Cloudy Bay Wines is regarded as one of the foremost wine producers to be established in the Marlborough region. Renowned winemaker David Hohnen founded it in 1985, who was convinced that the region would be the best place to set up a vineyard.
