Pretty Good

The fruit parcels used to craft Giesen Estate Pinot Gris were harvested, pressed, and fermented in stainless steel tanks using yeast. The juice obtained was then treated on lees for 2 months prior to blending and bottling. The resulting wine displays a pale straw colour with bright golden green hues. The aromatic bouquet exudes mesmerizing scents of candied pear, peach, quince and lavender, coupled with hints of honeydew and subtle floral notes. This enticing Pinot Gris is lush and supple on the palate, filled with flavours of spiced pear. Supported and balanced by underlying acidity, these fruit characters provide a persistent mouthfeel and wonderful texture to the wine. The finale is firm, long and satisfying. This delightful white wine can be cellared for 3 to 5 years, drinking best with fresh summer salad leaves, and roasted pear and feta tarts.

After completing his degree in winemaking, Marcel Giesen joined his brothers Alex and Theo to establish Giesen Wines. They purchased their first piece of land in Burnham on the outskirts of Christchurch, to grow premium cool climate grape varieties such as Riesling. The winemaking team at Giesen is headed by Chief Winemaker Nikolai St George.
