Shadrach being Grant Burge’s flagship wine, great care is taken to import only the best quality of fruits from premium vineyard sites in Barossa Valley, which is believed to have the perfect conditions for growing outstanding quality grapes. The fruit for this 2009 vintage was sourced from the Corryton Park vineyard situated in the cool and breezy Eden Valley region.
This vintage started off earlier than expected because of dry and hot weather in Barossa Valley. Traditional fermentation in open stainless steel static fermenters took place for eight days, after which a small percentage of the wine was left on skins so that it could undergo extended maceration. The remaining portion was fermented in French oak barriques, followed by maturation in new as well as two year old oak for a period of 21 months. Before its release, it spent 2 years in the bottle.
Grant Burge Icons Shadrach Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 is a unique blend featuring a deep inky purple hue. Fragrances of blackcurrant, dark chocolate and eucalypt flow from the nose, in addition to subtle nuances of mint and vanilla bean. The full weighted palate is filled with spicy berry fruit and liquorice, while the rich and smooth mid palate contains fine and velvety tannins which provide great length and structure to the wine. This elegant wine has a cellaring potential of up to 15 years, and tastes wonderful with cuisines like aged beef, duck and venison.
