Estate grown on our south facing, 26 year old Yarra Valley vineyard at Kangaroo Ground. Dry grown in the renowned deep volcanic soils of the district. As winemakers, we chose to craft a wine that would appeal to the ABC fraternity (anything but chardonnay) reminiscent of many Sauvignon Blanc’s. Achieved by picking early in the season to retain crisp acidity and some pleasant herbaceous characters. Attractive green hues in the glass, lifted herbaceous aromatics and a crisp refreshing citrus middle palate that shifts to a mineral chardonnay finish. A portion of the wine was used to prepare two new St Martin French Allier puncheons for the barrel fermented “Hilda May” super-premium chardonnay and then back blended with the bulk wine. And the name…when winemaker Ken King first tasted the final blend prior to bottling he uttered the words “this is a Pearler”. Hand pruned and picked, no pesticides, a traditional handmade wine that is vegan compliant; no animal derived products used in the winemaking.
An easy drinking wine made with Chardonnay grapes from our estate in Kangaroo Ground - the wine presents with natural citrus fruit flavours balanced by a hint of oak, a delicious fruity white for summer.
