Established by descendants of Croatian migrants in Auckland, Matakana Estate has forged a worldwide reputation for producing classic varietals and blends unique to the region. The winemaking team creates these full flavoured wines using premium fruit parcels sourced from their in house vineyards in Matakana as well as other vineyards in Wairarapa, Marlborough, and Hawkes Bay regions. Accomplished winemaker Richard heads the winemaking team.
The grapes used to create this beautiful Matakana Estate Pinot Noir were harvested, crushed and transferred to large fermentation vessels. The juice was then pressed into another tank for malolactic fermentation. Post-maturation in French oak barrels, the resulting wine features a dark red colour with black highlights along the edges. Pleasing aromas of strawberries and cherries fuse with charry oak and savoury notes to present a scintillating nose. The light yet plump palate contains strawberry and oak flavours supported by elegant tannins and firm acid line. The finish is smooth and enticing. This excellent red wine has the potential to be cellared for five to seven years. Pair it with porcini mushroom risotto or rare grilled tuna steak to unveil its real fruit potential.
