Mount Fishtail Wines takes its name from the double peaked mountain that looks over many picturesque vineyards in Marlborough, New Zealand’s renowned wine region. The Hengstler family decided it was an inspiring omen, and hence named their estate as such. The Hengstlers planted their first vines in the year 1996, and currently craft a marvellous range of delicious wines from their vineyards in the Waihopai and Wairau Valleys.
The richly flavoured grapes used to craft Mount Fishtail Late Harvest were pressed, fined, and slow fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels. The resulting wine displays an attractive green / yellow colour, and exudes complex aromas of quince, pineapple, citrus and yellow fruits from its fruity bouquet. Nutty hints from the oak complete the fragrant nose, which in turn shifts to a rich and sweet palate balanced by zingy acidity. The finale is long and clean. This vibrant blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling grapes should be enjoyed within 3 to 4 years from release. Team it with roasted pineapple, lemon curd and crème fraîche, or Tarte Tatin made using quince.
