The lovely Cabernet Merlot is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9.5% Merlot grape varieties with a touch of Malbec and Shiraz. Flaunting a vibrant dark red colour, it emanates dark berry fruit aromas on the attractive nose balanced by smoky oak characters. The well-structured wine reveals sweet blackberry fruit flavours on the palate, fused with clean acidity and gentle tannins. Similar dark berry fruit flavours are well integrated after its time in French oak plus a few months in bottle.
Established in 1989, Mount Trio Winery is a family venture started by Winemaker Gavin Berry and his wife Gill. His long-held love for the land and agriculture was the driving force behind the venture and today the winery represents a very personal expression of their family life. The couple runs the vineyard on a regime of "low chemical intervention". The soils are low in fertility so there is not excessive vigour. The first set of wines were released in 1995 and the range includes Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Merlot and Shiraz.
