Product Description
Cumulus Estate Wines was founded in 1980 in Australia’s Orange region. It is a sprawling 508-hectare vineyard planted to at least ten different varieties of grapes. In 2004, their ultra-modern winery with a capacity of 10,000 tonnes was built near Cudal, ensuring that harvested fruit was never more than an hour away from the winery. The estate has successfully launched their prestigious wine series – Cumulus, Six Hundred Above, Climbing, Rolling, Luna Rosa, Sixty Spokes, Five Friends and Block 60; and their markets have expanded to New Zealand, Canada, Europe, USA, China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
TASTING NOTES
This vintage Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested from the Cumulus Estate Wines’ high elevation Orange estate. It has an alcohol level of 14%. The wine is rich red in colour accented with purple edges. From the wine glass waft aromas of black currant, cassis, plum, mulberry and dark berry fruits alongside licorice, spice notes, and dried herbs. These are further balanced by notes of tobacco and fine oak. From the initial sip, the palate experiences an earthy and dusty feel, a combination of elegant oak and supple tannins. It easily moves to mid-palate with a trace of minerality. The wine’s biting taste bolsters structure and length. Its long finish, with a bit of spice, is a welcome experience. Additional cellaring for about five years is a promising option. Cabernet Sauvignon is a food-friendly wine and goes well with linguine pasta, slow-braised shoulder of lamb, beef tenderloin, venison cheeks and strongly flavoured cheeses.
