WINERY INFORMATION:

Cumulus Estate Wines sits on a vast sprawling land with slopes and varying elevations, in the Orange region. The 508-hectare vineyard is planted with at least 10 different grape varieties. In 2004, their ultra-modern winery with a capacity of 10,000 tonnes was built near Cudal, making sure that harvested fruit was always less than an hour away from the winery. The estate also has underground wine storage with a capacity of 8 million litres.

TASTING NOTES:

This red wine is of the Merlot variety from Cumulus Estate’s high-altitude vineyards in Orange. It has an alcohol volume of 14%. The wine is coloured a dark cherry red highlighted with brick-red edges. Floating from the glass are fruity aromas of dark berry fruits, forest fruits and black olive. A smooth and rounded easy-drinking wine, this medium-bodied Merlot has great fruit concentration and balance, with the front palate experiencing savoury dark berry fruit, supple medium-weight tannins and integrated oak characters. All these characters fuse together on the palate and lead to a soft finish. Additional cellaring of five years is a suggested option. This wine is best served from 55 to 60°F with foods such as black bean stew, Brazilian pork, braised veal shank, spaghetti bolognaise, beef casserole and hard cheeses.
