Nestled in the heart of Western Australia's Blackwood Valley, Dickinson Estate is a 5-star Halliday-rated winery renowned for its handcrafted, cool-climate wines. Established by Trevor and Mary Dickinson in 1994, the estate benefits from a Mediterranean-style climate with wet winters and warm, dry summers, ideal for producing premium Shiraz. The vineyard's gravelly loam soils contribute to the depth and complexity of their wines.

Vintage Conditions
The 2018 vintage in Blackwood Valley experienced optimal conditions, with a warm, dry summer following a wet winter. These conditions allowed for even ripening of the Shiraz grapes, resulting in fruit with concentrated flavours and balanced acidity. The vintage is noted for producing wines with intensity and elegance.

Winemaking
Under the guidance of winemaker Coby Ladwig, the Shiraz grapes were destemmed, crushed, and chilled into small fermenters. A cold soak for five days preceded fermentation with selected yeast strains. Gentle pump-overs and controlled temperatures preserved the fruit's integrity. Post-fermentation, the wine was pressed directly into a combination of 30% new and 70% seasoned French oak barrels, where it matured for 12 months. No fining was required, ensuring the wine's natural character remained intact.

Tasting Notes
This medium-bodied Shiraz showcases vibrant violet hues and aromas of dark fruits intertwined with subtle spice. The palate reveals layers of blackberry, pepper, and tobacco, complemented by hints of cocoa. Silky tannins and well-integrated oak contribute to a refined delicacy, culminating in a dry, persistent finish.

Food Pairing
An excellent companion to hearty dishes, this Shiraz pairs beautifully with grilled lamb chops, beef stew, or a selection of aged cheeses. Its balance of fruit and spice also complements mushroom risotto and chargrilled vegetables.
