WINERY INFORMATION

Nepenthe is a reputed wine company managed by the Tweddell family. The family established their first vineyard by planting 24ha of vines on a premium piece of land in Lenswood. The company also owns 3 flourishing vineyards – Balhannah, Charleston and Hahndorf Vineyards. This delicious Chardonnay was named Ithaca, described as the homeland of King Odysseus in ‘The Odyssey’.

TASTING NOTES

The premium fruit parcels used to craft Ithaca Chardonnay were handpicked and then gently pressed. The juice was fermented in French oak barrels and aged on yeast lees for 9 months. The resultant wine presents a pale straw hue. The complex nose exudes powerful scents of lemon blossom and white nectarine, with nutty oak hints following close behind. The generous palate contains white nectarine flavours, coupled with oak and lees undertones. Natural acidity combines with these beautiful flavours and fragrances to end the wine in a lengthy and textured finish. This enticing Chardonnay from Nepenthe has been crafted to be enjoyed within a cellaring term of 4 to 6 years. It tastes great with chicken risotto, mild Cheddar cheese, and roast pork with apple sauce.
