The name of the winery, which comes from the Māori word for "seed," represents growth and heritage. It was founded by Rhonda Lloyd, an American who fell in love with New Zealand and its wines. Te Kano, a winery in Central Otago, combines skilful winemaking with a dedication to land rehabilitation to create wines that highlight the unique character of the region they grow.
