Winery Information
Tertini Wines, a family-owned winery established in 2000 by Julian Tertini, is renowned for its commitment to crafting premium, small-batch wines. While the winery is based in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Tertini sources fruit from select regions, including Tasmania's Coal River Valley near Hobart. This cool-climate region contributes to the distinctive character of their wines, reflecting the unique terroir of Tasmania.
Vintage Conditions
The 2022 vintage in Tasmania presented a range of weather conditions across the island. While the East Coast experienced cool and wet conditions, the southern regions, including the Coal River Valley, had a drier season with rainfall between October and January. These conditions, combined with Tasmania's natural acidity, resulted in excellent quality grapes with optimal ripening.
Winemaking
Tertini's winemaking philosophy emphasises minimal intervention to allow the fruit's natural characteristics to shine. Grapes for the 2022 Tasmanian Pinot Noir were harvested at optimal ripeness and underwent fermentation under controlled temperatures to preserve their vibrant fruit profiles. The wine was then matured in French oak barrels, enhancing its complexity and adding subtle spice notes.
Tasting Notes
This Pinot Noir exhibits a deep ruby hue with aromas of dark berries, black pepper, and hints of oak-derived spice. On the palate, it offers a harmonious balance of ripe blackberry and plum flavours, complemented by fine tannins and a touch of vanilla. The finish is long and elegant, reflecting the cool-climate origin of the fruit.
Food Pairing
The 2022 Tertini Tasmanian Pinot Noir pairs exceptionally well with a variety of dishes. Its bold fruit flavours and balanced acidity make it an ideal companion for grilled meats such as lamb chops or beef steaks. It also complements hearty vegetarian dishes like mushroom risotto or aubergine parmigiana. For cheese lovers, try it with aged cheddar or gouda to enhance the wine's depth.
