Jeff Dewar heads Willow Bridge Estate, established in 1996 and ideally situated on a sprawling 60-hectare family-owned estate planted with over 10 distinct grape varieties. A multi-awarded winery, it has successfully launched a magnificent range of wine series, namely Dragonfly, Estate, Black Dog, Maris Sol, Laterite, Water Dancer, Sparkling, Red and White. This Solana Tempranillo belongs to the Estate series.

TASTING NOTES

This vintage of the Tempranillo grape variety is culled from the Western Australian region. It has an alcohol content of 13.9%. Tempranillo wines are marked by strong fruit flavours and aromas, a very dark colour, weak acidity and medium to strong tannins. A fine wine, it has structured flavours with low viscosity. Tempranillo is spicy with fruit-forward flavour emphasis on the front palate. Initial aromas teem with satsuma plum, dark cherry, mulberry, red currant, tomato and a faint trace of strawberry. Repressed aromas of leather, vanilla and tobacco follow. The mineral finish is smooth, spicy and long, with chalky tannins lingering on both sides of the drinker’s mouth. Cellaring for up to 10 years will surely add more complexity and depth to this great wine. This food-friendly wine matches well with shoulder cuts of beef, filet mignon, braised pork, salmon and seasoned poultry such as chicken, duck and quail.
