The Far North is located in South Australia, near the Northern Territory border. Referred to as ‘Arid Lands’ since the region majorly comprises of the desert, it also happens to be the largest and least populated area of the state. The region is home to several national parks, including Witjira National Park and Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre National Park. In terms of winemaking, the Far North zone contains one wine region - the Southern Flinders Ranges. It mostly produces red wine varietals, particularly Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Far North zone is bounded by Lower Murray, Mount Lofty Ranges and The Peninsulas to its south.
