Northern Rivers is a wine zone in the Australian state of New South Wales. The zone occupies coastal plains of the state and has one wine region named as Hastings River. Northern Rivers received its geographical indication status of a wine zone in 1996. Influenced by the Pacific Ocean in the east, the area observes low rainfall and a mild, subtropical climate that's humid in summer and autumn during warm days. The zone has proved its abilities for growing French Hybrids of wine grapes such as Chambourcin. Verdelho, though not a French variety, has also shown a huge success in this zone which is highly humid. The Northern Rivers zone has around 9 wineries located within its demography.
