Foxey's Hangout Wines

Foxey's Hangout Wines

The Foxeys Hangout label is inspired by the tales of massacre and murder surrounding an ancient eucalypt that once stood at the corner of Balnarring and Tubbarubba roads on the Mornington Peninsula. In the 1930s, two fox trappers used the tree as their scorecard, hanging the corpses of their day's shooting from opposite branches. In 1946 one of the trappers, Old Jack was found murdered at his home near Foxeys Hangout. Locals continued the practice of hanging fox corpses for decades but eventually, it petered out. From the early 1990s wooden effigies of foxes hung from the tree, reminding passersby of its grisly past.
