Winery Information :
Solitaire Estate Vineyard is steeped in rich history. Once a segment of a vast property, it was initially owned by SA's wine pioneer, John Barton Hack, who back in the 1840s, grew grapes in Echunga. Interestingly, Hack even sent a wine sample to Queen Victoria, reminiscent of Walter Duffield's audacious gesture that landed him in trouble for unlicensed winemaking. Fast forward to 1999, the vineyard experienced a renaissance under Jock Calder and his family, introducing varieties like sauvignon blanc, shiraz, and riesling. The torch was passed to Paul Freer and Dennis Clift in 2007, who not only expanded the vineyard but also ventured into exporting, reaching markets in Singapore and China.
Tasting Notes :
The wine greets with a multifaceted bouquet featuring notes of blackberry, cinnamon, and vanilla, intertwined with hints of black pepper and aromatic spices. The palate journey is extended and harmonious, punctuated by refined tannins. A commendable interplay between fruit and oak ensures that the deep flavours are perfectly poised, highlighting the wine's exquisite balance.
