Leconfield Shiraz - Richer and Bolder as It Ages

The Hamilton Family of winemakers is recognized as one of the pioneers of the long and prosperous history of the wine industry in Australia. In 1837, Richard Hamilton cultivated the first block of land in the pristine landscape of south Adelaide with grape stocks from Africa.

It was five generations later when Dr. Richard Hamilton brought Leconfield Wines to prominence. After the construction of a small winery in McLaren Vale in 1972, the younger Richard established a winery with the assistance of his father Burton, a renowned viticulturist and uncle, Sydney, a wine grower.

A monumental unification of Coonawarra and McLaren Vale Wines in 1981 proved to be an advantageous action for the improvement and diversification of Leconfield products and its more welcoming appeal to wine lovers and beginners alike.

Among the most celebrated vintages from this estate is the 2013 Leconfield Shiraz. It has a deep red colour and hues of crimson. It also features rich and vivid aromas of subtle plum fruits. Hints of exciting spices such as vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon from French oak treatment complement the bouquet.

This full-bodied wine features smooth and silky tannins wrapping around strong fruit concentrates that provide a long and structured finish. This bold and stylish wine pairs well with heavily seasoned and meaty dishes such as roasted lamb and creamy lasagne.

The Shiraz produce of 2013 was below average in volume because of the lack of rainfall and warmer climate conditions. Harvesting of grapes was done earlier than usual to capture the perfect quality of the fruits for a bold and intense wine. The wine can be enjoyed right after its release from the winery but it also has a cellaring potential of greater than 10 years
