The Cabernet Sauvignon Infographic

Cabernet Sauvignon is a prominent wine grape variety which is grown all over the world. While the early origins of the grape are not known, it was found to be growing in the 18th century in the Bordeaux region of France. A DNA testing done on this variety in the 1990s has confirmed that is actually a cross between the Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc varieties of grapes and dated back its origin to the 17th century.

Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied wine with high levels of tannins and acidity. The wines age well for a period of 5 to 20 years. It is capable of growing in a wide range of climatic conditions which makes is a global wine varietal.

In Australia, Coonawarra region first became famous for growing this variety in the 1970s. Intense fruit flavours and notes of methol were its chief characteristics. Thereafter, the Margaret River region produced this grape with its distinctive black fruit notes. Now, almost all major wine regions of Australia grow Cabernet Sauvignon, including the Barossa, Clare and Yarra valleys.
