TASTING NOTES :
With a small portion of grapes dried for six weeks Amarone-style before blending, the La Bise Adelaide Hills Sangiovese 2021 (pronounced "san-gee-oh-vay-zee") is a captivating wine that offers deeper and darker characteristics than your average Sangiovese. This wine showcases fragrant, plush cherried fruit, floral notes, and mid-palate richness, making it very easy to drink with excellent grippy tannins. Winemaker Natasha Mooney, renowned for her biodynamic and organic practices in Barossa with her estate label ‘The Thief,’ revitalises old vineyards to produce high-quality fruit in the Adelaide Hills through her side project, La Bise—meaning ‘the kiss of life.’ This venture allows her to highlight the unique charm of cool-climate varietals from sub-regions like Lobethal and Oakbank, while the small town of Kersbrook contributes delightful offerings such as Fiano, Pinot Gris, Nero d’Avola, and this expressive Sangiovese. La Bise wines balance intense fruit and crisp acidity, evoking a refreshing energy akin to the joy of your favourite song. With a production method focused on sustainability, these wines are a testament to the benefits of nurturing the land. This Sangiovese is best enjoyed with hearty Italian dishes, including bolognese, lasagna, Margherita pizza, and duck ragu, alongside fresh tomato dishes, pork or lamb stews, roast meats, and barbecued sausages—perfect for sharing with friends over a delightful meal. At 13.9% alcohol, it boasts a medium body, low sweetness, medium acidity, high tannins, and no oak, making it an exceptional choice for a range of autumnal occasions.
