Do you want to drink champagne just like the French? Here are some common things to avoid:

  • Make sure that you never chill your champagne. Though champagne can never be enjoyed warm or at room temperature, it would get worse if you freeze it. 38 to 45 degree Fahrenheit is the best temperature.
  • If you are chilling your champagne in an ice bucket, make sure you fill the bucket properly. Under filling will chill only half the bottle. The best way is to add some cold water to the ice in the bucket and making sure that the bottle is totally submerged.
  • Some people chill their champagne glasses ahead of time by filling them with ice. This can work for martinis but in case of champagne, it can have a negative effect on the release of the bubbles and aromas.
  • While serving champagne, do not hide the label by covering it with a napkin. This is quite a contemptible practice as since you are hiding the label, the drinker will assume the champagne to be really cheap. If you are on a budget and cannot spend an exorbitant amount on champagne, then instead of buying a cheap product look out for wine deals online. Good online liquor stores keep running various deals and discounts. Watch out and you would surely find good champagne at a reasonable price sometime or the other. Buy in bulk and stock up!
  • Once you have finished your bottle, make sure you never put it back in the bucket upside down. The French consider people doing so showing disrespect to the lovely drink they have just finished.
  • Swirling champagne like you do with other wines is a complete no- no too. According to French, this “champagne battering” will comprise the precious bubbles.
  • Also, shaking the bottle too much before opening and then throwing it on your fellow drinkers is considered crude as it leads to wastage of the bottle’s precious contents.
