While the magic of innovation has its own bright spots in the modern world, traditional techniques of organic winemaking have continued to reveal a lot of surprises and form a reliable foundation of a winery’s consistent success. That is exactly what Rosnay Organic Wines believes as one of Australia’s pioneering wineries in the field of organic winemaking.  Organic wines are not only gaining popularity as a healthier option but also because of their honesty to goodness character that you will experience in every sip.

Here are the three fundamental Rosnay Organic Wines principles.

Rosnay Organic WinesFirst, Rosnay believes that it is essential to focus on nurturing the soil rather than the vines themselves. Organic matters such as animal manure, naturally improve soil quality. The plant should get its nutrients from the soil at its own pace and not forced with synthetic chemicals. The result would be a healthier and pest-free vine producing grapes of precise soil, vintage and varietal representations.

Second, most weeds are actually nature’s soil conditioners. A larger percentage of this so-called ‘weeds’ are free nitrogen fixers and attractors of beneficial insects. After the decomposition of the weeds, the organic matter will provide lots of nutrients for the vines to feed on later. Of course, weeds that are identified as noxious are removed by hand.

And lastly, Rosnay recognizes pest infestations and plant diseases as indications of underlying problems in vineyard management. Rosnay prioritizes prevention over treatment all the time (e.g. burning infected vines and exposing the plants to air and light). If things go out of hand, harmless and non-systemic substances such as sulphur, milk and soap are used to control the situation.
