Product Description
Winery Background
Fowles Wines is a family-owned estate located in the Strathbogie Ranges of Victoria. The “Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch” range celebrates local heritage and wild‑food inspiration, with wines that are aromatic, textured and varietally true.
Vineyards and Vintage Conditions
The 2022 Pinot Noir comes from high‑altitude sites between 430 and 550 m elevation in the Strathbogie Ranges. The cool climate and granite-rich soils helped develop elegant red fruit intensity and fresh acidity, while yields were kept low for concentration.
Winemaking Process
Grapes were harvested in mid‑March from Upton Run and Billis vineyards, then cold-soaked for four days. Fermentation was conducted using wild yeasts in stainless steel with occasional lees stirring. The wine matured for 12 months in mainly older French oak puncheons before bottling under screwcap.
Tasting Notes
Dark ruby with violet hues, the nose shows forest berries, cherry, a hint of dried spice and herbal lift. The palate is medium-bodied, structured and refined, offering juicy dark fruit, fine chalky tannins and a long, savoury finish balanced by underlying acidity.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with grilled salmon, roast duck, mushroom dishes, game ragu or aged cheddar. Its savoury fruit profile and medium structure also suit rustic vegetarian fare.
Story Behind the Wine
This Pinot Noir is made to reflect the purity and subtle power of Strathbogie fruit. The 2022 vintage is aromatic, precise and elegantly structured, a wine built for both flavour and freshness.
