WINERY INFORMATION:

One of the country’s oldest operating wineries is the 180-year old Houghton Vineyard, with humble beginning since the year 1836. Three British officers acquired the land in Swan Valley and named it after one of the owners, Lt. Col. Richmond Houghton. In 1937, the first Houghton White Burgundy vintage was produced, bringing the Houghton winery a degree of fame. In 1880, Houghton received its first wine award, the ‘ Order of Merit’. This was the precursor of many more awards and distinctions that followed, thus making the Houghton winery one of the Australia’s most awarded.

TASTING NOTES:

This magnificent Chardonnay is clear and shiny in appearance, with a pale straw hue. It is aromatic and ripe on the nose, with scents of apple and oak flowing from it. The intense palate contains flavours of melon, white peach and lemon citrus, providing a fresh, clean, crisp and fruit driven drinking experience. A refreshing acidity, weighted structure and smooth texture add to the long and lingering climax. Suggested food matches are vegetable terrines, creamy vegetable soups, creamy prawn gumbos, New England chowder, lightly cooked shellfish, and steamed or grilled fish.
