Winery Information
The McGuigan Family Release Range was created by Brian McGuigan, founder of McGuigan Wines, to honour the family's deep-rooted winemaking heritage. With a commitment to quality and tradition, McGuigan Wines has built a reputation for crafting wines that showcase the best of Australia’s wine regions. This Cabernet Sauvignon is a fine example, offering a rich and balanced expression of the varietal.
Vintage Conditions
The fruit for this vintage was sourced from vineyards in the Riverland and Murray Darling regions, both known for their ideal grape-growing conditions. The climate is hot, with high evaporation rates and low rainfall, making irrigation essential. The long, sunny days ensured full ripening, while noticeably cooler nights helped maintain acidity and structure. Low humidity throughout the season contributed to healthy, high-quality fruit with minimal disease risk.
Winemaking
After being harvested at peak ripeness, the grapes were crushed and de-stemmed before fermentation on oak at controlled cooler temperatures for 5 to 7 days. This process helped preserve the fruit’s natural vibrancy while allowing subtle oak integration. Following fermentation, the wine was matured in stainless steel tanks to maintain its fruit-forward profile. Careful blending and maturation resulted in a smooth, structured, and well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon.
Tasting Notes
A deep red wine with brick-hued edges, this Cabernet Sauvignon opens with inviting aromas of dark red fruits, complemented by hints of spice and vanilla. The palate is full-bodied and well-structured, showcasing rich flavours of blackberries and cherries, characteristic of the varietal. Balanced acidity and subtle oak influence provide depth and complexity, leading to a long, lingering finish.
Food Pairing
This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs exceptionally well with bold and savoury dishes. Enjoy it alongside a rare steak, slow-cooked beef brisket, or roast lamb with rosemary. It also complements hearty vegetarian dishes like grilled portobello mushrooms or ratatouille. The wine’s structure and balanced acidity make it a great match for aged cheeses such as gouda or mature cheddar.
