Winery Background

Meerea Park is a family-run vineyard in the Hunter Valley, managed by Rhys and Garth Eather. Situated in Pokolbin, the estate includes the distinctive "Hell Hole" block, one of the original homestead vineyards planted in the 1960s—ideally placed for powerful yet refined Shiraz.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

Fruit for the 2023 Hell Hole Shiraz is sourced from the old-vine Homestead block. The 2023 season featured low yields and even ripening, with warm days and cool nights helping preserve acidity and develop depth of flavour.

Winemaking Process

Grapes were hand-harvested and fermented in small batches. After fermentation, the wine matured in older French oak before being bottled under screwcap to retain freshness and varietal focus.

Tasting Notes

Deep crimson in colour with bold aromas of dark berries, plum and spice. The palate is medium-plus-bodied, delivering spicy plum and black cherry alongside subtle earthy notes and tempered oak. Fine acid grip supports a balanced and lengthy finish.

Food Pairing
