Winery Background

Nannup Ridge Estate is a family-run vineyard in the Blackwood Valley near Nannup, Western Australia. Set on granite-capped slopes with long sunny days and cool coastal evenings, the estate spans approximately 16 hectares and is managed by winemaker Bruce Dukes, winner of Best WA Winemaker 2011 and Winemaker of the Year 2020. Since 2008 the winery has collected over 200 awards including trophies, gold and silver medals across several varietals.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

Fruit for the Perks Road Merlot 2020 comes from old-vine Merlot blocks in Nannup, grown on granite-loam soils with ample sun exposure balanced by afternoon breezes. These conditions result in slow ripening and preserved acidity, giving the wine both juicy red fruit and structural poise.

Winemaking Process

Grapes were hand-harvested and fermented with precise extraction to balance power and finesse. The wine was matured in oak (some new, some seasoned) to add spice and lift while retaining varietal clarity. It finishes dry with firm but approachable tannins and a medium body.

Tasting Notes

Perfumed aromas of red plum and cherry mingle with cedary oak spice. The palate is concentrated yet refined, with juicy red fruit, clove spice and subtle vanilla. Soft mouth-coating tannins support the fruit, creating a focused and vibrant finish.

Food Pairing

Versatile at the table, this Merlot pairs well with roast pork or duck, mushroom risotto, grilled red meats, or hearty vegetarian stews. It also complements aged cheddar or blue cheese beautifully.
