WINERY INFORMATION:

Plantagenet Wines was the first winery in the Great Southern wine region of Western Australia and has developed an enviable reputation for producing premium quality wines since 1975. Our wines have achieved international recognition for their amazing depth of flavour and structure. The style of our wines are suited to a diverse range of cuisine, due to their elegance, finesse and incredible balance. The Shiraz fruit is hand harvested with a small amount of machine harvest employed when necessary to optimise timing of the ripening window. Fruit is de-stemmed to keep as many whole berries as possible and then cold soaked at 4C for 4-8 days to optimise colour and retain aromatics. Fermentation is conducted in small batches in open top fermenters with a combination of plunging and pump overs to increase extraction. The wine is pressed off the skins before dryness and run to barrel to complete fermentation and MLF.

TASTING NOTES:

A medium-bodied wine with complex spice and white pepper, soft plum, cherry, violets and a dense core of dark fruit. This wine embodies the structural and layered elegance that Great Southern Shiraz is known for; illustrating a well balanced use of savoury, dusty oak, which combined with tight acid structure provides great length and character. A classic, cooler ripening year has afforded this wine extensive cellaring potential.
