Winery Background

Rochford Wines, established in 2002 by Helmut Konecsny, is a family-owned winery located in Coldstream, Victoria, within the Yarra Valley. The winery is renowned for producing premium cool-climate wines, with a strong focus on showcasing the unique characteristics of the Yarra Valley terroir.

Vineyard and Vintage Conditions

The 2023 Estate Pinot Noir is sourced from four of Rochford’s estate vineyards: Gruyère, Coldstream, Seville, and Woori Yallock. The 2023 vintage experienced a cool growing season, allowing for slow ripening and the development of concentrated flavours. The vineyard's well-drained soils and ideal microclimate impart a distinctive minerality to the wine.

Winemaking

The grapes were hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit was used. Fermentation occurred in small open-top fermenters, with a portion of whole bunch inclusion to enhance aromatic complexity. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, with a balance of new and older oak, to integrate the flavours and add subtle texture.

Tasting Notes

• Aroma: Delicate aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and a hint of rose petal, with underlying earthy notes.

• Palate: Light to medium-bodied with flavours of fresh red berries, subtle spice, and a touch of minerality.
