Winery Background

Stanley Estates is an estate-grown winery located in Marlborough, New Zealand, specialising in expressive, terroir-driven wines. Founded in the Awatere Valley by British immigrants in the early 2000s, the estate now operates under Lake Road Wines with winemaker Eveline Fraser crafting vibrant and sustainably produced wines. 

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

Sourced from a single vineyard in the cooler Awatere Valley sub‑region of Marlborough, the grapes benefit from cool nights and warm days typical of the 2023 season. These conditions produced small berries with concentrated flavours and vivacious acidity. 

Winemaking

The wine was machine-harvested and gently pressed, with juice settled and fermented cool in stainless steel. There were two yeast inoculations and a short time on lees after fermentation to build texture. The wine was stabilised and filtered before bottling under screw cap to preserve freshness and purity. No malolactic fermentation took place.

• Appearance: Pale straw with lively green highlights

• Aromas: Bright and fragrant, featuring green rockmelon, kiwifruit, crunchy apple and lemon zest 

• Palate: Succulent and flavoursome, with expressive summer melon, citrus and fig flavours supported by crisp acidity

• Finish: Long and fruity, youthful and easy to enjoy

Food Pairing

Pair with fine seafood, shellfish, chicken dishes or fresh salads. It also makes a delightful aperitif when served chilled.

Awards and Reviews

Rated 90 points and awarded 4.5 stars by Sam Kim at Wine Orbit, who described it as “Brightly fruited and beautifully fragrant… fruit expressive and delightfully drinkable.” Additional tasting from Cameron Douglas MS gave a solid 89 points, praising its balance, drive and approachable style.
