The Pawn is an independent, artisanal label born from the vision of Tom Keelan, Rebecca Wilson, and David Blows. Their goal? To reclaim unique parcels of fruit from high-quality vineyards in the Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek—free from corporate blending—and craft them into expressive, small-batch wines with character and soul.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions
The 2022 Sangiovese draws from both McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills sites, bringing together cool-climate elegance with structured, fruit-driven depth. The Adelaide Hills terroir contributes bright acidity and red berry purity, while McLaren Vale adds warmth and concentration.

Winemaking Process
Fermented in open-top fermenters, this Sangiovese includes partial whole-berry fermentation—especially from the Piccolo clone—to build complexity. The wine is aged for nine months in older American barriques, allowing for subtle integration of texture and depth without overt oak influence.

Tasting Notes
Complex and layered, the wine delivers cherry-cola and raspberry aromas complemented by violet floral notes. On the palate, expect tart cherry and cranberry fruit met with mineral and leather undertones. Light tannins and a long, intricate finish underscore its finesse and structure.
