WINERY INFORMATION
Jeff Dewar is the proprietor of family-owned Willow Bridge Estate, a sprawling 60-hectare spread planted with about 10 distinct grape varieties. Mr Dewar is of the firm belief that the whole wine staff should work closely together. TASTING NOTES
Chardonnay is the world’s most popular and successful white wine variety, known appropriately as the Big Daddy of white wine grapes. This wine is vintage from the Geographe region with an alcohol content of 13.4%. It is a pale straw in colour highlighted by flecks of green. Winemaking techniques used were kept to a bare minimum, thus allowing for full expression of the fruits’ vineyard site. It is full-flavoured, intricate and consistent, but buoyant and bracing with elegant French oak offering support. As the bottle is opened, lifted aromas of grapefruit, lime, stone fruit and nectarine meet the nose. Secondary aromas of spice and grilled nuts emphasize the use of French oak. The mixed bouquet and spirited palate exude the influence and weight of fresh stone fruit, peach, nectarine and citrus flavours softly harmonized by mineral acidity and length, leading to a faultless balance and finish. Maturation of 7 to 10 years will add further layers. Chardonnay is a flexible wine, and it goes well with soft cheeses or steamed or grilled fish with herbs or scallops.
