About the Vasse Felix Wines
The first wine estate in the region, Vasse Felix, was established in 1967 by Margaret River pioneer Dr Thomas Brendan Cullity. His mission was simple: make the best wine he could and prove what an unfamiliar place could do. He believed the place was destined for greatness. The first vintage was in 1971, and Vasse Felix has since become one of Australia’s most iconic and internationally renowned wineries. Since 1987, Vasse Felix has been guided by the Holmes à Court family with a solid vision for the estate and the Margaret River wine region to prosper and be internationally recognised 100 years into the future and beyond. The Classic range is where most people start with Vasse Felix - and with good reason. The
Classic Dry White is a Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend that has become one of Margaret
River's benchmark summer whites: fresh, citrusy, and genuinely refreshing at a price that makesit a no-brainer regular. The Classic Dry Red, made primarily from Shiraz, follows the same philosophy - approachable, food-friendly, and strong everyday drinking by any measure. The Classic Dry Rose rounds out the trio with bright red fruit and a dry, clean finish.
The Filius range moves up a notch in depth and detail while staying approachable. Filius (Latin for "son") uses the same estate fruit as the upper tiers, giving the wines a quality floor that is hard to find at this price point. The Filius Chardonnay is the standout: creamy texture, stone fruit, fine acidity, and genuine length. The Filius Cabernet Merlot and Filius Cabernet Sauvignon are both excellent for mid-week drinking with food. The Filius Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is textured and complex, a clear step above the Classic.
The Premier range is where the wines begin to show real site character and reward a few years in the cellar. The Premier Cabernet Sauvignon is structured and long, with the tannin framework to develop beautifully over 5 to 10 years. The Single Plot Chardonnays - sourced from individual named blocks within the estate - showcase just how detailed and expressive Margaret River Chardonnay can be when you get down to the vineyard level.
