Winery Background
Established in 1971, Alkoomi Wines is one of Western Australia’s most respected family-owned estates, with vineyards in the cool-climate Frankland River region of the Great Southern. Now in the hands of the Hallett family’s third generation, Alkoomi continues to craft wines that balance intensity with elegance, with the Family Collection representing the estate’s finest parcels of fruit.

Region & Vintage
Frankland River is renowned for its pristine environment, gravelly soils, and long, cool ripening season, which produces Shiraz with lifted aromatics, spice, and refined tannins. The 2022 vintage was excellent, with mild conditions allowing for slow, even ripening, resulting in wines of great depth, vibrancy, and structure.

Winemaking
Fruit was carefully hand-selected from low-yielding vines to ensure concentration and flavour purity. Fermentation took place in small batches with gentle plunging to extract colour and tannin. The wine was then matured in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels, adding layers of spice and structure while respecting the bright fruit character.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red with a purple edge. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and plum are lifted by notes of black pepper, clove, and a touch of floral violet. The palate is medium to full-bodied, showing dark fruits, savoury spice, and fine-grained tannins. Oak adds subtle mocha and cedar complexity, leading to a long, elegant finish.

Food Pairing
An excellent match for slow-cooked lamb shanks, roasted duck, chargrilled steak, or aged hard cheeses.

Cellaring Potential
While drinking beautifully in its youth, this Shiraz will develop further richness and complexity with 8–12 years of careful cellaring.
