Winery Background

Angove Family Winemakers has been part of South Australia’s wine story since 1886. With vineyards in the Riverland and McLaren Vale, they produce wines under several organic and sustainable labels. The Naturalis line is certified organic, meaning no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or chemical fertilisers are used in either vineyard or winemaking. This Chardonnay is a product of Angove’s commitment to purity, sustainability and approachable style.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The grapes come from Angove’s certified organic Nanya Vineyard in the Riverland plus a small organic block on the outskirts of McLaren Vale. The soils are sandy loam over limestone, offering free drainage and warmth during the day, balanced by cooling nights. The 2022 season delivered sunny conditions and good diurnal range (warm days and cooler nights), which allowed the fruit to ripen fully while preserving freshness and natural acidity.

Winemaking

Organically grown grapes were harvested when flavour-ripe, then gently pressed. Fermentation took place in controlled stainless steel tanks to capture fruit purity and citrus freshness. There is minimal oak influence; any oak usage is subtle, aimed to add nuance rather than dominant flavour. The wine was made with low preservatives and is vegan-friendly.

Tasting Notes

• Appearance: Soft green-yellow with pale straw hues.

• Aroma: Melon, peach and subtle citrus blossom, with a delicate whisper of oak.

• Palate: Medium-bodied, rich yet fresh – stone fruit and melon dominate, balanced by fine texture and tidy acidity.
  Finish: Smooth, with good length; clean and natural, ideal for drinking relatively young.
  

Food Pairing

Pairs well with seafood (grilled prawns, barramundi), roast chicken, mild cheeses, or creamy pasta. Serve slightly chilled to best appreciate the freshness.
