Winery Background

The Angove family has been making wine across South Australia since 1886. With properties in both McLaren Vale and Riverland, their certified organic Naturalis range reflects a commitment to sustainable viticulture—no synthetic pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers. This Shiraz is part of that clean-fruit philosophy, marrying regional warmth with respect for the environment.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

This wine is predominantly made from grapes grown in the Nanya Vineyard near Paringa in South Australia, as well as from a small certified organic vineyard near McLaren Vale. The 2021 growing season brought warm days balanced by cooling nights, ideal for bringing out rich Shiraz fruit without losing freshness. The soils (red loam over limestone) and organic cultivation practices contribute depth, concentration and a natural texture.

Winemaking

Harvest is done at night to keep grapes cool, preserving aromatics. Grapes are lightly crushed and fermented in temperature-controlled vessels. The wine undergoes maceration to extract colour and flavour, followed by pressing and secondary malolactic fermentation. It is matured with subtle oak influence for structure and complexity but without overwhelming the fruit. Minimal filtration is used to preserve organic integrity.

Tasting Notes

• Appearance: Brooding, purple-red with magenta hues.

• Aroma: Wild berries, plum, and spice, with hints of dark chocolate and a touch of oak.

• Palate: Medium- to full-bodied, flavours of dark fruit (blackberry, plum), a layer of savoury spice, gentle tannins, and a warm, smooth texture.

• Finish: Rich and lingering, with fruit and spice carrying through, balanced by a softness and fine tannin grip.

Food Pairing

Pairs especially well with grilled red meats, slow-roasted lamb, barbequed sausages or hearty stews. Also great with aged cheeses or rich vegetarian dishes with umami character.
