Winery Background

Angove Family Winemakers, a fifth-generation family-owned winery, is renowned for producing super-premium, single-vineyard wines from McLaren Vale's organic vineyards. The Medhyk range honours the family's heritage and commitment to sustainable viticulture, showcasing the exceptional quality of old vine Shiraz from the region. 

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2021 vintage benefited from a warm growing season, allowing the old vines to produce concentrated fruit with rich flavours and balanced acidity. The grapes were sourced from Angove's certified organic Warboys Vineyard, located in the heart of McLaren Vale.

Winemaking

The grapes underwent careful destemming and crushing, with 25% placed as whole bunches to enhance complexity. Fermentation occurred in small open fermenters with daily pump-overs to extract optimal flavour and colour. Post-fermentation, the wine was basket-pressed into French oak puncheons for maturation. The final blend was crafted in early October 2022 and bottled without fining or filtration to preserve its purity.

• Palate: Bold and concentrated with chewy tannins, offering flavours of plum and blackberry, complemented by subtle French oak influence.
  

• Finish: Long, warming, and well-structured, balancing richness with depth.

This Shiraz pairs beautifully with rich grilled or roasted meats such as beef, lamb, or game. It also complements hearty dishes like stews and casseroles.
